Consumption
I'm feeling very sick and miserable today. Literally haven't left my sofa for 2 days.
Things I've consumed recently:
Lost in La Mancha - doc about Terry Gilliam's aborted Don Quixote film with Johnny Depp
Entourage - HBO series by Larry Charles (Seinfeld co-creator), as recommended by Spike and now highly recommended by me
Holidays in the Danger Zone - a BBC series about life in war-torn countries by Ben Anderson. At first-glance, he's a rather unremarkable presenter, but has a charm and relaxed manner which is a differnt approach for this of programme but works well
Stalking Pete Doherty - doc from UK's Channel 4 about an obsessional filmmaker attempting to make a film about Pete Doherty, ex-Libertines frontman. Pete Doherty is big news in the UK, mostly coz he's dating Kate Moss. Now, I like to watch rock-star heroin addicts slowly and publicly die as much as the next man, it's just that I normally prefer there to be some decent music behind it all to justify the attention, and here there aint any.
The Comeback - another HBO series, starring Lisa Kudrow (Phoebe from Friends)
Real Time with Bill Maher - a political comedy show I guess. I'm not the biggest fan of Bill Maher (I think the only show of his to reach the UK was Politically Incorrect on the Comedy Channel), but there's a need for shows like this to showcase some alternative (mostly left-wing) thinkers on mainstream US television. Very interesting and aggressive tirade by Andrew Sullivan against Noam Chomsky.
House - run of the mill medical drama from Fox, I think. Noticable only for Hugh Laurie's star-role.
Lots of American stuff, as you can see. It's remarkable the quality of stuff HBO consistently churn-out. HBO, in case you don't know is a premuim (ie you have to pay extra for it) US cable channel, responsible for probably two of the best TV series of all time: The Sopranos and The Larry Sanders Show. Oh, and of course the Red Shoe Diaries.
My mate Colm's arriving from the UK on Saturday. Will be good to have some male company. Definitely part-ay time. (sorry)
I got cable installed today. If I wasn't so ill I'd be really psyched about this coz it means I'll finally be able to watch live EPL football. I'm also not that psyched about the hardcore porn I'm getting on Channel 100, the Butterfly Channel (how sweet), which is a sure sign I'm very sick indeed and should probably rush to hospital immediately.
