London 1 Paris Didn't

So, seemingly against all the odds, London beat Paris to host the 2012 Olympic Games.

I'm glad London won it. The UK has been unjustly starved of major international sporting events in recent decades but I truly dread the next 8 years of media coverage with the never-ending speculation and cynicism about the whole affair.

It's also not-a-little depressing that the re-generation of East London is dependant upon a sporting event.

Anyway, Seb Coe et al did a sterling job in winning the bid. He seems to be a pretty formidable leader, it's a pity he aligned himself with William Hague so early on, otherwise he may have still been a Tory politician. Actually, come to think of it, maybe he did the right thing.
